One of the best things about coaching is watching clients go on to soar, often in ways they never expected.
Most people come to coaching with goals in mind, but they don't always know where the work will lead. And so, although professionals often find coaching deeply beneficial, many also may find it a little scary, at least to start.
That's because it takes courage to start a journey of self discovery and growth when you can't see your destination. That's true of any journey. Coaching, for sure. But also the entirety of professional life. Think back to your first day at your first job after finishing your formal education. I bet that took some courage!
Unfortunately, as the months and years go by, it can be harder and harder to summon that kind of courage. The courage to question the status quo, acknowledge misalignment and make a different choice than you imagined you would make. Than you are expected to make.
That's why I am reflecting this week on courageous career decisions. We don't see enough of this — people making choices that take them off the prescribed path for success and unlocking far more satisfaction and impact as a result. But it's happening. In fact, looking back on my own career, I noticed a few of these moments, so I'll start with sharing my own story.

In hindsight, I'm a little stunned that I found the courage to make some of the decisions I did. It was scary. But as I started to experience the flow and satisfaction that can only come with alignment, I knew I'd made the right decisions for me.
